Managing Stunts is a Job Like No Other
Imagine for a moment that you walk into your place of employment tomorrow only to be told that you need to figure out a way to jump a 3,000 pound vehicle over a tractor trailer that is engulfed in flames during a rainstorm while simultaneously ensuring that no one in the vehicle is injured and that the car lands in relatively good condition. If you are a Hollywood stunt coordinator, those types of scenarios are ones that you are faced with every single day. Typically, a stunt coordinator is an established stuntman or stuntwoman who is hired by a production crew to arrange the casting and performance of stunts. The stunt coordinator is responsible for finding the individuals that will complete the stunts, is in charge of directing how the stunt is performed, and is tasked with making sure that the stunt is set up in such a way that as much risk is mitigated as possible Sound easy? We didn’t think so. As a pivotal part of the production crew, stunt coordinators work closely with the director to make sure that the framing of the stunt is in line with the overall vision of the movie and that the scene the director has in his or her mind is recreated as faithfully as possible.
